No NoPorch Example
Our final example is The No-No Porch.
We're pleased you know better!

This porch has the following 11 problems:

1. Skimpy fascia (eave) and no Beam.

2. Post tops cut short. Better to remove excess Post length from the base (or order more appropriate Posts to begin with).

3. Little Swan Brackets are too small, even for the limited Post top area.

4. 4" Posts are too small for this wide Post spacing. Actually, 4" Porch Posts are generally too small for any but the very smallest of porches.

5. Posts are installed without Base Blocks or Base Mounting Plates. Water damage to follow ...

6. No Subrail. Gives the Handrail a weak appearance.

7. Use of interior style bottom railing rather than our correct Sloped-Top Bottom Rail. Water damage to follow ...

8. Balusters too far apart for this 2" size.

9. Balusters spaced unevenly and too far from the Posts.

10. Short pieces of Handrail and Bottom Rail create weak joints.

11. No Support Block under Bottom Rail.
