Quick Checklist

Previous | Table of Contents | Next

If you feel you "know" porches
you may not be planning a
complete review of this Guide...

...but please, at the very least review the Quick Checklist below. We feel these are very important points often overlooked by even the most experienced builders of porches. If you're planning to read this entire Guide (and we hope you will!), please refer to this section later as a quick "refresher" on the most important points. This Checklist is also helpful for researching areas that may need attention when remodeling existing porches.

Quick Checklist of Important Porch Considerations:

1. The unturned portions of your Porch Posts must be long enough to accommodate your intended decorative items at the top and the Balustrade at the bottom without these items intruding on the turned area of the Posts.

2. Post spacing is important.

3. Half Posts are available for use at walls.

4. Beams should be same thickness as Porch Posts.

5. If Soffit is perpendicular to face of Beam, then Porch Eave Decorations can be easily added to provide a dramatic third dimension.

6. Sloped-top Bottom Rails prevent premature water damage.

7. Subrail provides several advantages.

8. Ways to stretch your dollars.

9. Proper care and feeding of millwork is all about proper storage of unfinished wood and completely painting all wood surfaces before installation.
