Percent-price-change

Property Type = text

(Also, see Wiki > Products > Price Changes (subpage accessed from Menu Bars))

The custom Percent-price-change Property, when added to a Product page and holding a Custom Variable, allows us to percentage upcharge (or downcharge) prices on any item page containing this Property by changing the value of the Custom Variable at Variables.

The Percent-price-change Property can be added at any time AND the appropriate Price Variable can be added at the same time WITHOUT actually changing prices PROVIDING the background Custom Variable has a value of 0. Otherwise, prices will not display on the item page.

However, if the Percent-price-change Property has NO Custom Variable assigned, or is assigned a Custom Variable that does not exist, the current price WILL still display properly.

Since all percent-price-chg Variables begin with 'price', locate one by doing a search at Variables for 'prii' and then scroll w/o clicking.

The first time we use the Property to update a Vendor or VWW category prices, we should manually verify proper percentage change on EACH affected product page by checking one of the items on each page, and we should note on the Master List the date of the change, the % change, and that it has been verified.

Custom Variable Type = number
Create a new Custom Variable for each Product Category. Do this using the Define New Variable tab and NOT by adding a new Dropdown-entry-value. Variable will start with "price-" and, for Vendor items, will end with the Vendor abbreviation. Thus, the Custom Variable for AZEK product pages is price-az. To subdivide a given Vendor's pages the Custom Variable format will be "price-(vendor abbreviation)-(product category)". Example: "price-az-porch". See list below.

MIXED VENDOR PAGES When a given page contains products from more than one Vendor, or with VWW-made items AND products from a Vendor, then put an asterisk after each 'base' price on that page that should NOT be upcharge by the Percent-price-change variable. For + pricing the asterisk should go after the closing parenthesis. It can be set off by spaces for better readability, as in "Item Name (+$9.80) * ". The asterisked item retails can, of course, be manually upcharged.

NEGATIVE Percent Changes
Merely enter a negative sign ( - ) before the number in the Custom Variable. Thus, -5 would reduce prices by 5%. Doesn't matter if there's a space after the negative sign ( - 5 ).

CALCULATING % to INCREASE RETAIL
Our Retail will increase by the same % as our cost, UNLESS we change our GPM Target simultaneously:
50% target GPM - If we pay $50 for an item, our retail is 50 /.5 - $100. If our cost increases 6%, then 50 x 1.06 = 53 /.5 = $106 new retail, so our retail also increased 6%

55% target GPM - $50 cost / .45 = $111.11 retail. If our cost increases 6%, then 50 x 1.06 increase = $53 /.45 = $117.78 new retail - 111.11 = 6.67 / 111.11 = 6%, so our retail also increased 6%.

60% target GPM - $50 cost / .40 = $125 retail. If our cost increases 6%, then 50 x 1.06 increase = $53 / .40 = $132.50 new retail - 125 = 7.5 / 125 = 6%, so our retail also increased 6%.
