Stair Applications for Sawn Balusters

Previous | Table of Contents | Next

Balusters Touching As this photo illustrates, Sawn Balusters work very well on stairs. Notice that the amount of solid material directly above and below the top and bottom circles in the Baluster pattern are about the same on the stair Balusters as they are on the porch Balusters. Click on photo for more views and details.

This was achieved by having us add equal amounts of plain material at both top and bottom of the Balusters so that they could be cut to the proper angle needed for these particular stairs. The slope of your stairs will determine how much extra length you will need us to add. See Length Extension

Sloped-top Bottom Rail
We strongly recommend using our Sloped-Top Bottom Rail on both your porch and stair railings. This will help protect the railing from water damage. Normal flat-topped railing will NOT shed water properly. Our Sloped-top Bottom Rail solves these problems!

Two Piece Design
Two interlocking pieces provide easy installation, hidden hardware, and substantial, traditional styling! Just screw top piece of Railing into bottom of notched balusters. Then, using our pre-drilled holes, screw bottom piece of Railing into place, as shown at the Sloped-top Bottom Rail Product Listing.

Baluster Notching
We can pre-notch Balusters for the straight Railings on your porch but you will need to order the Balusters being used for the stairs un-notched in addition to ordering them longer to accommodate the angled cuts.

Flat-topped Bottom Rail
Notching can be avoided -- on straight runs AND on stairs -- when using both AZEK PVC Rails AND AZEK Balusters since water damage is not an issue with PVC.

We produce a 100% AZEK PVC two-piece bottom rail with flat top piece. Although AZEK is more expensive than our standard Poplar, it offers simpler installation and is maintenance free. See our Flat-top Bottom Rail.
