![]() High Density PolyurethaneDescription High Density Polyurethane is an exceptionally durable material, very well suited to exterior building products. Please do not confuse it with cheap low density polyurethane, nor with styrofoam. The secret of High Density Polyurethane is its closed cell structure which makes it a very stable, long-lasting material. Overall density is very similar to that of white pine. Our High Density Polyurethane feels, sounds, installs, and paints just like wood. But that's where the similarities end! Order a free Post sample at the Classic Polyurethane Porch Post page. High Density Polyurethane resists chemical attack and severe weather conditions, including salt water exposure. It is impervious to insects and does not rot. It has no nutritional value so it resists the growth of mildew and fungus. It is environmentally safe, containing no atmosphere damaging chlorofluorocarbons. It offers versatility, durability and great value for any project. Exposure to Heat Standard Polyurethane items should not be exposed to temperatures higher than 140 degrees F, such as directly above a fireplace. Read more about fire-rated or non-combustible options at our "Important Additional Poly Info" page. Painting Our High Density Polyurethane products include durable, factory-applied primer paint. Light scuffing (with sandpaper or steel wool) of the factory primer coat is recommended before applying the top coat. Use a good quality water or oil based paint for the top coat. Avoid dark colors (those with L value of 56 to 0, where 100 is white and 0 is black.) The closed cell structure of High Density Polyurethane is a great surface for paint! Since Polyurethane doesn't expand and contract as much as wood, paint on Polyurethane won't easily develop the hairline cracks that permit moisture to get below the paint surface. That means paint is much less likely to peel or bubble and will therefore last much longer on Polyurethane. Installation Polyurethane products offer ease of installation using common woodworking tools. Because the core is wood rather than metal, our Polyurethane Porch Posts offer the added advantage of easy installation of Rails, Brackets, and other decorative trim. Free Sample Still not convinced?
